The Outdoor Classroom at Williams Park is about to become even more magical! Thanks to a generous $12,500 grant from the Parks Foundation of Hendricks County, we’re thrilled to announce the addition of a Play & Learn College, an imaginative play feature designed to spark creativity, curiosity, and unstructured fun.
While the Outdoor Classroom already offers a rich sensory experience through its butterfly and sensory gardens, this new addition fills a vital gap by inviting young minds to explore, learn, and grow through imaginative play. It also enhances our Little Sprouts Pre-K Nature Discovery program and will benefit families, schools, and nature enthusiasts alike.

The Play & Learn College offers a variety of features that support early childhood development:
- A double-sided blackboard that encourages drawing, creativity, and group play.
- Two benches at different heights, welcoming both children and adults to engage.
- Interactive tactile elements like an abacus, clock, bell, and number board that strengthen fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination.
- Inspiring dramatic play like “playing school,” play-writing, and play-counting, which are proven to boost school readiness and a love of learning.
By integrating nature with imaginative and interactive play, we are fostering a more inclusive and dynamic environment where children can develop physically, socially, and cognitively while engaging with the natural world.
The Outdoor Classroom may be a hidden gem now, but with this exciting upgrade, it’s about to shine brighter than ever!
