Reserve Police Officer

The Police Reserve Officer Program is comprised of community members who wish to volunteer as non-paid police officers.  These officers supplement the full-time police officers in a variety of duties throughout the department.  They patrol in vehicles.  This program is ideal for individuals who have an established career but wish to make their community a safer place.  Reserve Officers enjoy the best of both worlds, maintain their chosen career and also help the police.  Reserve Officers will be called upon and deployed during any major disaster, during major planned events, or when full department deployment is necessary.

A typical Reserve Officer performs at least 12-hours of service each month.  A Reserve Officer can volunteer to work more than the minimum 12-hours a month, if they choose.

What are the duties of a Reserve Officer?

The officer performs general law enforcement services, which include street patrol, conducting preliminary police investigations, report writing, accident investigations, traffic control, and other basic law enforcement duties. Reserve Officers are also utilized at special events such as parades, school events, or fairs.  Reserve Officers can perform most of the duties of a full-time police officer.

What are the benefits for a Reserve Officer?

The police department will provide you with the standard issued equipment and uniform of a Brownsburg Police Officer.  You will be issued a department firearm; a protective vest, crowd control safety equipment, and other necessary leather equipment.
